Gems® has a culture medium for every stage of the process, from oocyte collection, sperm preparation, embryo culture, vitrification and heating. Gems® has key components to support growth and maintain a constant environment, especially osmolarity and pH.

A quality culture medium is essential to obtain optimal results for patients. That’s why GENEA has been developing, producing and using its own culture formulations since 1991. Available for clinical use since 2013, the third-generation embryo culture medium set – Gems®.

Options:

  • Oocyte recovery buffer

Designed to reduce stress on the oocytes during their removal from the ovarian follicles. Supplemented with gentamicin.

  • Sperm washing gradient set

Used to separate sperm from seminal plasma, as well as for the separation of highly mobile sperm in preparation for insemination. Supplemented with human serum albumin (10mg/mL), gentamicin (0.01 mg/mL) and coated silica.

  • Sperm medium

Used to wash and resuspend sperm for the insemination stage in IUI, IVF or diagnostic washing, optimized for storage in a 6% CO₂ incubator. Supplemented with human serum albumin (10 mg/mL) and gentamicin (0.01 mg/mL).

  • Sperm buffer

Used to wash and resuspend sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF or diagnostic washing. Supplemented with human serum albumin (10 mg/mL) and gentamicin (0.01 mg/mL).

  • Vitrification Set

Cryoprotective solutions that protect against cell damage (EG/ DMSO/Trehalose). For manual vitrification of human embryos.

  • GAVI medium cartridge

Used in conjunction with the Gavi® System for the vitrification of human embryos (EG/DMSO/Trehalose).

  • Heating set

For heating vitrified embryos using the Vitrification Set or Gavi® cartridge.

  • VitBase

HEPES buffer medium. Preserves embryos for a short time in a gas-free environment.

  • Fertilization medium

Used to provide a suitable environment for oocytes and sperm to promote optimal fertilization rates. Supplemented with human serum albumin (5 mg/mL) and gentamicin (0.01 mg/mL). Higher concentration of glucose and lower concentration of magnesium.

  • Cleavage medium

Higher EDTA and concentration of pyruvate, lactate and non-essential amino acids, to support the embryo in reaching the cleavage stage. Low concentration of glucose and essential amino acids.

  • Blastocyst medium

Without EDTA and lower concentration of pyruvate, lactate and non-essential amino acids. Higher concentration of glucose and essential amino acids, to support the development of the embryo from cleavage to the blastocyst stage.

  • GERI medium

Ready-to-use solution for extended support. Culture with uninterrupted incubation until the blastocyst stage. The embryos retain their microenvironment throughout the in vitro culture. Replaces cleavage and blastocyst culture media without the need to supplement or replace/replenish the medium. Simplifies workflow and processes with a balance of compounds that support embryo development from zygote to blastocyst. Contains Glutamine in dipeptide form, such as AlanylGlutamine, to reduce harmful levels of ammonia.
