The Quark RMR is an assessment system designed to measure resting energy expenditure using indirect calorimetry. It was developed to measure energy requirements accurately and instantly in patients with spontaneous or mechanically assisted breathing. In addition to resting energy expenditure, the Quark RMR identifies the substrate utilization of the metabolism, allowing for better adaptation of nutritional therapy. The tests can be carried out using a test canopy, a face mask or by connecting to a ventilator.

Quark RMR is a compact indirect calorimetry solution designed to accurately and instantaneously measure resting energy expenditure (REE) and respiratory quotient (RQ) non-invasively by measuring oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbon dioxide production (VCO2), among other ventilatory parameters and metabolism substrate utilization (%FAT, %PRO, %CHO). Assessment with the Quark RMR allows for better nutritional support and better planning of nutritional therapies.

The Quark RMR is a device suitable for both research and clinical applications. Several scientific evidence show that negative energy balances are correlated with an increase in the number of complications, particularly infections. By measuring REE and RQ in critically ill patients, it’s possible to improve the patient’s outcome and reduce his length of stay in ICUs, for example.

Features:
” Latest technology in gas analyzers: paramagnetic sensor, stable and durable for O2 and fast infrared for CO2.
” Flow meters (disposable pneumotach and multi-purpose turbine) guarantee high precision in the different measurement modes (canopy, mask and mechanical ventilation).
” Quick and easy-to-use calibration procedures guarantee precise flow/volume measurements (using the 3-liter calibration syringe) and gas concentration.
” Developed with OMNIA software.

The Quark RMR is supplied with a canopy for measuring the expiratory flow of spontaneously breathing patients. This method does not require a mouthpiece or face mask and is more comfortable for patients. The gas sample is taken through a sampling line, while ventilation is measured by a turbine. The canopy ventilation is easily regulated to keep the fraction of expired CO2 (FeCO2) within a fixed range of values.

In addition to the veil, the Quark RMR allows breath-by-breath gas analysis using multi-purpose silicone face masks (available in 5 sizes) or, alternatively, with a mouthpiece and AB filter.
